Beauty Practices That Could Be Aging Your Eyes!

Our eye area is very delicate, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of the first areas where signs of aging start to appear. Signs of aging can be caused by a number of things: genetics, sun damage, squinting and even smiling. But that’s not all! Some of your beauty habits just might be causing premature aging. To help you avoid them, we’re sharing five beauty practices that could be aging your eyes…

1.Not Using an Eye Cream
Tell the truth, have you been skipping out on eye cream? If so, it’s time to break that bad habit. Eye cream should be an essential part of your skincare routine (preferably applied both morning and night). Eye creams provide the ingredients this delicate area needs to stay hydrated and fresh, but also to help diminish the appearance of dark circles and fine lines. It’s time to stop thinking eye creams are optional – they’re a necessity! If you want to slow the aging process, you need to start using one today.

2.Applying Eye Cream the Wrong Way
However, if you are using an eye cream, we still have some potentially bad news for you. You might be applying it incorrectly. Yes, you read that right! There’s a wrong way to apply your eye cream. So, once you’ve found the eye cream that gives you the results you want, keep in mind the following tips every time you go to apply it.
Apply your eye cream after cleansing, removing all traces of makeup, and applying your facial moisturizer. Take just a pea size amount of the eye cream (you don’t need much at all) and dab small dots along the under eye area and up toward the brow bone. Instead of rubbing the eye cream into the skin, pat the area with your ring finger until it has been completely absorbed. You want to use your ring finger because it has the lightest touch, making it the best for this area.

3.Using a Scrub Around the Eyes
As we already mentioned, your under eye area is extremely delicate. And one thing you should never do is use a scrub around your eyes. Scrubs can often be harsh and could cause damage to the thin skin underneath our eyes. Never reach for a scrub thinking it would be good for removing your eye makeup. Instead, try GOMMAGE 305 which is a non-abrasive soft exfoliant with concentrated hydrating ingredients that eliminates dead cells. This refreshing gel is also enough to use around the delicate eye contours and will maintain their youthful appearance.

4.Forgetting to Wear Sunglasses
Going out into the bright sunshine without the proper protection is a big no-no! If you’re going to be outside in the sun for an extended period of time, do not forget to apply sunscreen to your eye area and don’t forget to wear sunglasses as a shield from the sun. Prolonged sun exposure can have a negative impact on your eyes by causing: sunburn on the front surface of the eye (the photokeratitis), cataracts, macular degeneration, and skin cancer (melanoma) around the eyes. Just as you’d protect your skin from the sun, don’t forget to protect your eyes too.

5.Rubbing Your Eyes
It’s likely that you’ve rubbed your eyes whenever you’ve felt tired. And you’ve probably rubbed them whenever they’ve felt itchy and irritated from allergies. You need to stop! Rubbing your eye area can, over time, result in early signs of aging, such as wrinkles. Any time you touch the eye area, make sure that you are being extra gentle. Tugging or pulling on this thin, delicate skin can cause you to see fine lines much earlier than you’d like.
