Poor skincare advises you should avoid at all costs

When a certain idea becomes mainstream, it is quite often perceived as being a fact. However, many times it turns out to be false. It is important to be cautious about what other people tell you, even though it seems to be self-evident. Here are some common myths about skincare advises you should avoid.

Skincare and exfoliation

When it comes to skincare, it is well known that exfoliation is crucial. It kills dead skin cells, thus keeps your skin clean and smooth. But do you know that too much exfoliation can cause damage? In fact, scrubs carrying components such as salicylic acid or retinol, if applied to much, causes your skin to redden and get irritated. So be careful in applying to much exfoliation for  skincare. It is ideal to you use a skin-friendly scrub just a few times a week. Retinol can make your skin sensitive, so it would be best to look for products containing less potent ingredients, when combined with it.

Skincare and really hot showers

Skincare is also related to hot water. Exceedingly hot water can damage your skin. It reddens, blemishes and dehydrates it, especially if it is sensitive. So, adjust your water accordingly, and give your skin some well-deserved relief.

Skincare and toners containing alcohol

Toners are very beneficial to your skin. They purify, keep your skin balanced and treat your skin. However, toners including alcohol can damage the skin, by drying it out. Eventually, this will enable the exceeding increase of oil production in your skin as a compensation for your overly dried skin. So, look for an alcohol-free toner.

Skincare and using tooth brush to clear up zits

Some believe that toothpaste can be used as a remedy to clear zits. It indeed dries out pimples, but it is not recommended. Toothpaste contains hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and alcohol. Although they can dry out the zits, they can also cause irritation and dehydration. So, to avoid this, use blemish specific spot treatment to treat your acne. Look for creams that contain Ichthyol and burdock extract, as well as soothing extracts like chamomile and calendula.

Skincare and using a Sonic Cleansing Brush Too Often

Sonic cleansing brushes can be harmful if used to often. It is basically another exfoliating tool. As previously mentioned, too much exfoliation can cause skin damage, even if you choose a brush that’s smooth. In fact, they can cause irritation as well as an increase of acne for some people. Once again, even though it seems you can never have too much exfoliation, remember it is not true.

Skincare and thinking the Sun Will Clear Up Your Acne

If anyone told you that the sun can clean up your acne, it couldn’t be any further from the truth. The sun, without proper protection, dries up the skin. As I previously said, when the skin dries up, as a compensation, the body overly produces oil, which in turn generates the formation of acne. Thus, you end up getting the opposite of what you are looking for. Avoid this by using the proper SPF creams to protect your skin, not only for the formation of acne, but as well as other damages that are caused by the radiations of the sun.
